Meet Our Herd

Meet our Herd

Coral the horse

Mare with foal

Coral

Coral’s foal, Luna, was born in May of 2022. She will not be available for adoption until her foal is weaned. Until then she will continue to heal, learn and come to know people as good in her life we hope! She is a wonderful mother, and this is her second foal that we know of.

While we love our rescues and love the work we do, donations are a big part of what allows us to take in new horses and pay for both food and medical treatment. With the help of our generous and kind-hearted donors, we can keep bringing hope and second chances to horses in need.

Topaz

Topaz the horse
Topaz (age 4), is a cremello Palomino Paint mare who found herself in need of a safe home when her former home, an equine therapy center, had to close down during the pandemic. We were happy to bring her in and offer her a great start at life! She has tons of personality and is super friendly and sweet! At this time Topaz is in training to become a reliable equine partner, until she finds her forever home.

Buck

One of forever residents, Buck (18 year old gelding) found his way here with a debilitating injury that prevents him from being rideable. Not too long after he arrived he and our youngest human quickly fell for each other and it was decided he should stay to live out his days in our sanctuary.

CPT Jasper

Captain Jasper the horse
Captain Jasper (4 year old gelding) and Coral (age unknown) came in as part of an owner surrender situation. They are unhandled, however, they've already begun to settle into their new lives at Rescue Rio and we are hopeful they will come to feel safe and loved during their time with us.

LTX HERD (LAMPASAS TEXAS HERD)

This beautiful herd was recently picked up in 2022 by our own county’s Sheriff’s Department and donated to us when no owners came forward to claim them. All of these horses were unhandled feral horses when they were rescued. They are not up for adoption at this time, but follow our social media pages for updates on them! As  they complete needed training they will come up for adoption  In the meantime we are fundraising for their care at this time and would greatly appreciate donations for medical and feed expenses!
